Handyperson & Small Repairs Service
Our Purpose
Lochaber Handyperson Service will complete minor repairs, tasks & small jobs around the home in order to contribute to your well-being and safety. Our Service is available to people aged 65 or over, and to people living with a disability, across all tenures including home owners, privately rented tenants and Council and Housing Association tenants; although we cannot carry out repairs which are the responsibility of your landlord.
We do not charge for our labour or travel expenses, but you may have to make a contribution towards parts and materials as required. We will discuss any costs prior to works being carried out. Our Handyperson staff have been vetted by Disclosure Scotland & will show you their identification badge when they knock on your door.
We also fit "Aids to Daily Living" such as grabrails & other items to help you to remain living independently in your own home in safety and comfort. We also install other types of equipment if Health & Social Care assess a need.
We also deliver & uplift Community Aids & Equipment loaned to people by Health & Social Care.
Unfortunately we cannot take on work that is normally undertaken by a skilled tradesperson, work on gas appliances or work which falls within the scope of NIC, EIC or SELECT (Electrical). We are also unable to undertake plumbing, decorating or gardening work.
We offer advice for people who need to arrange for their own tradesmen for larger repairs & we can refer clients to Care & Repair for assistance with eligible larger repairs & adaptations.

Small works to include:-
- Moving equipment and furniture within your home.
- Supplying and fitting smoke alarms.
- Changing fuses.
- Draught proofing Windows and doors.
- Fitting curtain rails.
- Fitting window blinds.
- Hanging curtains.
- Fitting shelves.
- Assembling small amounts of flat pack furniture. e.g. bedside table.
- Hanging pictures.
- Replacing tap washers.
- Replacing shower door seals.
- Fitting toilet seats.
- Bleeding radiators.
- Fitting energy saving light bulbs, smart switches and other energy saving devices.
- Cleaning accessible guttering.
- Erecting washing lines /rotary driers.
- Repair/replace door window locks.
- Repair/replace cupboard hinges.
- Fit key safes.
- Removal of any tripping hazards.
- Telecare.
Adaptations and Equipment to include:-
- Deliver and uplift equipment as required.
- Install and demonstrate equipment.
- Disinfect all used equipment prior to re-use or storage.
- Organise repair of faulty or damaged equipment.
- Organise servicing of equipment.
- Fit grab rails.
- Raise beds, chairs or settees.
- Fit temporary ramps.
- Levelling thresholds on doors.
- Removal of obstructions for wheelchair access.
- Transport of larger items such as beds and hoists.
